© glass canvas A luxury 5-bedroom home which features a glass wall that slides upwards to completely open up the ground floor formal living spaces to the outside. A range of formal and informal spaces face onto a private garden. The plans submitted include an underground leisure centre comprising gym, games room, jacuzzi, hot tub and spa/sauna. This area lies under the garden which has a glass floor and hints at the existence of the 'underworld' below. The design maintains the existing 2-storey courtyard plan and scoops out the back of the site to create a long U-shaped building. Extensive use of transparent and translucent glazing allows surrounding rooms to overlook a private courtyard entrance. The landlocked site is presently used as an office. Architect James Mills notes: "We feel that the mix of natural materials and ingenious use of glazing has created dramatic spaces in a dwelling place of surprise and delight." |
