Contractor/Developer Buxtons located this site and completed a back - to - back land sale to the Peabody Trust. EUA were brought in by Buxtons as the Architects for the Design/Build proposal. The proposal was to complete a terrace by the construction of six 3 - bed 2 - storey family houses. EUA designed a restrained scheme in an idiom derived from a traditional typology and subtle changes in plane and detailing. The intention was to articulate the street elevation. The design included open planning on the ground/family floor. Means of escape issues arising from the unusual internal planning were successfully negotiated with the Local Authority. There was a spirited debate on design issues with the Contractor/Developer client who was more familiar with extremely simple plain designs. |
