EUA designed the scheme in Camden, North London for the private developer client. The design, comprised two maisonettes, five flats and a three-storey house, with an office arranged on three floors. This is a joint venture between European Urban Developments and Sandpoint Limited, who have jointly commissioned EUA to provide full construction and architectural services. The eight dwellings, varying in size and shape, are punctuated by a series of communal and private courtyards and balconies which form a sequence of relationships between the private and public living spaces. The use of light and choice of materials provide articulation to the building's context within the heterogeneous character of Rochester Place. Western Red Cedar, Corten Steel, Polymeric Render, and extensive glazing throughout are key materials. Architect Paul Whitley believes the design will soften the building's impact on the streetscape, which, in the Camden UDP, is currently described as forming a "hard and featureless façade and its elevation has a detrimental impact on the street".
