conservation areasPlanning Authorities constantly review whether parts of their areas have special architectural or historic interest which should be preserved or enhanced. Where this is the case, the area is designated as a Conservation Area. As there are more and more Conservation Areas being designated every year, this represents a growing constraint on development of all kinds. Consent is generally required to demolish buildings in a Conservation Area, and the design quality of new and replacement buildings both in and adjacent to the area comes under intense scrutiny from the Design and Conservation Area Officers representing the Local Authority. EUA are very familiar with working in Conservation Area settings. Close liaison with the relevant officers frequently results in successfully proposing and achieving consent for high quality modern design as a solution to enhancing character of a Conservation Area.
