listed buildings

Buildings are listed by the Secretary of State to protect the heritage of the built environment, making it a serious offence to demolish or alter/extend a listed building in such a way as to affect its character.

By maintaining close contact with English Heritage, EUA fully understands the standards required for work on many historic building types.

In addition, the practice is familiar with the four key listing criteria (Architectural Interest, Historic Interest, Close Historical Association, Group Value), the 'fixtures' test and the intricacies of listing descriptions. Being well versed in the detail of this listing system has enabled EUA to procure numerous Listed Building Consents on behalf of its clients, who in some cases have received Enforcement Notices.

EUA provides advice to clients considering work which is potentially non-compliant, ensuring that the client understands the implications of their intention. Where unauthorised work has been carried out, the practice will negotiate approvals with the local authority on behalf of the client.
